The Best Smartphone Video Gear in 2022Jul 11, 2022
If you know anything about me it's that I teach people to make videos with what they already have.
This means you can spend money on more important areas of video, like strategy and messaging (it also makes you a better video making in my opinion too).
But every content creator comes to a point when it's time to invest in the right gear so you can make it easier and faster to create videos.
So it's my job to buy and test gear & resources, so you don't have to...
Over the years, I've bought and tested different gear to make sure if you choose to invest you know what is the best bang for you buck.
This is what I currently have in my arsenal.
MOVO LV 1 Lavalier Microphone
My go to microphone which I've had for 5 years now. This budget microphone provides great quality sound and can be used with a DSLR or smartphone.
It's 3m cable means you have plenty of space to move around and be further from your camera.
IK Multimedia iRig Mic Handheld Condenser mic
This is my favourite condenser microphone that I use with this microphone stand!
I use it for coaching calls and livestreams, as well as video podcasts.
Aputure Amaran AL-F7
Can't praise this light enough!
Before i bought a lighting kit this was my only light in my videos, and the best bit was it's portability.
I use this when I'm filming on the go, or as a fill light in my videos in my office. It's got plenty of light for whatever situation you need.
Softbox Lighting Kit
Now that I have a studio set up I leave these lights set up for my social videos, training material and coaching calls.
Tripods and Mounts:
Most people forget that with a tripod your need a mount, but I actually prefer a Rig.
It will help with stability for any 'walking' shots you want to do, and allows you to mount lights or microphones on your phone.
Works in landscape or portrait
Joby Gorilla Pod 3K
My most favourite tripod!
Portable and multi-purpose, this little tripod can be used as a traditional tripod on any surface, also easy to hold like a selfie stick, wraps around most objects.
I use it for holding my phone, lights or microphones.
Ulanzi tripod mount with cold shoe
This is my backup mount to put your phone on a tripod, with the added bonus on being able to mount either a light or microphone on the top.
Neewer Aluminum Tripod and Monopod
Just a great budget tripod - nothing more needs to be said really.
Sits in my office between my lighting set up (I never use the monopod feature though).
So that's my core kit that and except for the softboxes it's all portable so I use it in the office, or out and about.
