Gear & Resources

My recommended tech and tools to help you create better videos faster, and run your business more efficiently.

It's my job to buy and test gear & resources, so you don't have to....

As a business owner, and especially if you're a solopreneur like me, the right tools can make all the difference to more efficient video creation and running your business.

Over the years, I've bought and tested different gear and software to make sure if you choose to invest you know what is the best bang for you buck.

Canva

When it comes to creating short animated videos, video thumbnails and even formatting my videos for social media Canva is the best tool by far (not to mention you can use it for so many other areas of your business).

QUICC

The majority of videos are played in silent so you need a quick (and affordable) way to add captions to your video and make it stand out.

Tools for running your business

Kajabi

My entire business is run through kajabi!

My website, courses, landing pages, funnels, email marketing, checkout... everything I need.

Honestly, the thought of having everything under one roof was not something I thought I would take up but the combination of tools I had before was costing time (and more money). As a solopreneur I needed a faster way to run my business so in 2020 I moved everything over and could not be happier.

LeadPages

If you're only needing landing pages then Leadpages is the best for a tool that isn't expensive but incredibly easy to use with high converting templates and integrations with many other softwares and tools.

This was my go to landing page software before I moved everything over to Kajabi.

Video Gear (and other tools)

I film (and edit) 99% of my videos on my phone alone so many of the suggestions below are tailored to smartphones, but some can also be used with DSLRs or desktop computer/laptop.

I buy most of my gear my from Amazon even though I'm in New Zealand (as they tend to have a better price) so these are links to the gear I've purchased.

SOUND

MOVO LV 1 Lavalier Microphone

My go to microphone! This budget microphone provides great quality sound and can be used with a DSLR or smartphone.

It's 3m cable means you have plenty of space to move around and be further from your camera.

Rode SmartLav+ Omnidirectional Lavalier

My second favourite lavalier!  While it gives superior quality sound, the short cable does mean you're limited with how far away you are from the camera.

Works with smartphone, tablets and computers.

LIGHTING

Fovitec 2-Light XL Fluorescent Lighting Kit

The equivalent of what I use here in New Zealand (just a different voltage).

Now that I have a studio set up i leave these lights set up for peices to camera, or coaching calls.

Aputure Amaran F7

Can't praise this light enough!

Before i bought a lighting kit this was my only light in my videos, and the best bit was it's portability.

I use this when I'm filming on the go, or as a fill light in my videos.

Aputure AL-M9 mini LED

A super small yet powerful light. I use this to add different lighting elements to my background but can be used as a main source of light if you have nothing else.

Neewer RL-12 LED Ring Light kit

I'm not a fan of the ringlight myself, having tested it and not enjoying the rings it puts in your eyes (also really bad for people who wear glasses) but this a decent budget option.
